The NBR Art Awards was a much-loved annual gala event held at the Auckland Town Hall.
While Helen Clarke was serving as Prime Minister, she was also Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage. During this time there was sustained corporate support for NZ arts and culture.
NBR (then) publisher, Barry Coleman, was also a champion for the arts. He created the NBR Art Awards to recognise corporate sponsorship of the arts.
